Coal buckets and scuttles
Coal scuttles are normally round shaped with a high rim at the back, a raised lip at the front and feature one or two handles. This basic design means that the coal can be poured into the fireplace easily from the lip and by having a higher back, it ensures that the coal won’t spill out of the coal scuttle when it is being carried.
Coal buckets can however, vary in shape, size and design and there are many different variations of coal scuttles available. Some coal buckets are tall and thin with a lid on top that you scoop the coal out of, whereas others are more helmet shaped.
You can also get a coal scuttle made of many different materials these days such as chrome, brass, copper or pewter. Also there are a range of finishes that you can get on a coal scuttle such as black, brass plate, stainless and galvanised. Whichever you choose it will be sure to complement your
cast iron stove as well as being a useful fireside accessory.
